Stainless steel 316 and 316L are marine-grade stainless steel. This grade has a carbon content of 0.03% or 0.08%, making it an excellent material for marine applications. However, the material is less resistant to warm sea water than the other two grades. In addition, it is prone to surface corrosion and may develop crevices or rough surfaces. Stainless steel 316 is also susceptible to solution treatment, known as annealing or annealing. In this process, the steel is heated to 1010° to 1120°C, then quickly cooled to prevent corrosion. Unlike thermal treatment, this method cannot harden the steel.
